WiNGS Partners with UnidosUS to Bring Latinos in Finance Program to Dallas

Virtual workforce development curriculum prepares Latinx participants to apply for jobs with top banking institutions in 8 weeks.

DALLAS – WiNGS has partnered with UnidosUS to bring Latinos in Finance (LIF) – a workforce development program that focuses on preparing Latinos for success in the financial services industry – to the Latinx community in Dallas. The curriculum, exclusive to UnidosUS grantees, was created in collaboration with leading banking institutions in the industry.

WiNGS will launch the first LIF program in July 2021, fostering an eight-week virtual training for participants to prepare to apply and interview with top banking institutions in the nation. As of July, WiNGS is one of 18 UnidosUS Latinos in Finance grantees across the U.S., and the only one in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.

“Through the UnidosUS Grant, WiNGS will facilitate a job readiness and job training program, specifically promoting recruitment in the Latinx community, for those who desire a career in the banking industry,” said Daria Offord, Director of Economic Advancement at WiNGS. “Our partnership with UnidosUS adds to WiNGS programs empowering women to lift themselves and their families out of poverty and into success.

UnidosUS is the nation’s largest Latino civil rights and advocacy organization. Through their unique combination of research, advocacy, programs, and a national network of nearly 300 community-based Affiliate organizations across the country, they simultaneously challenge the social, economic, and political barriers that affect Latinos in the U.S.

UnidosUS’s bilingual banker training program was launched in 2015 to improve lifelong career pathways to employment for Latinx jobseekers in commercial banking or finance industries. LIF utilizes UnidosUS’s industry-recognized curriculum, Unidos in Banking, career activities and job-placement assistance to ultimately embed culturally competent team members in banking communities across the U.S., helping frontline staff to better serve Latinx banking customers.

LIF seeks to enroll bilingual Latinxs who are 18 years of age or older, have a high school diploma or GED, are authorized to work in the U.S., have basic computer literacy skills, are fluent in the English language, have 6 months of customer service experience and do not have adult felony convictions. Participants must also be able to attend virtual class Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for 8 weeks from 9 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. Participants that enjoy working with people, can connect prior work experience to banking, and have experience handling cash and with incentive-based sales have been particularly successful in the program.

WiNGS will kick off the first cohort of the LIF program on July 27, 2021. The organization plans to open another round of applications in October 2021. Interested participants can find more information at www.ascenddallas.org or by reaching out to [email protected].
