D CEO recognizes WiNGS in the Capital One Impact Initiative category.

DALLAS – WiNGS has been named a finalist for D CEO’s 2022 Nonprofit and Corporate Citizenship Awards, presented in partnership with the Communities Foundation of Texas. Now in its fifth year, the awards honor professionals and organizations in the nonprofit world that make a positive and efficient impact on the Dallas-Fort Worth community.

“It is an honor for WiNGS to be highlighted among so many other inspiring organizations that do such important work to serve our community,” said Kate Rose Marquez, CEO of WiNGS. “We are immensely proud of the work we have done over the last year to further our mission of empowering women, fighting poverty and impacting generations. The women we serve continuously demonstrate resilience and fortitude on their journey to create a better future for themselves and their families.”

WiNGS is a finalist in the Capital One Impact Initiative Award category, which celebrates the innovative efforts of a local nonprofit to advance socioeconomic mobility and close gaps in equity and opportunity through workforce development, housing stabilization, small business support, racial equity and/or financial well-being.

The pandemic exposed important issues of inequity within the community, which WiNGS actively works to address. WiNGS provides services that target financial stability and independence to empower women to take control of their life.

For more than 113 years, WiNGS has served as a crucial bridge for women to arrive at a place of success and sustainability regardless of their starting point. WiNGS empowers women in the midst of change – first-time pregnancies, economic and financial crises or starting a new chapter – by providing the lift and support needed to carry them successfully into the next phase of their lives.

The organization serves women in some of the most vulnerable populations – communities of color, women with limited English proficiency, single-income households, women at risk of intimate partner violence and financial insecurity, and small business owners. WiNGS provides proven and comprehensive programs on multiple fronts to intervene, address, and break the cycle of poverty and disadvantage caused by the unequal number of barriers women of color face.

The Nurse-Family Partnership significantly increases birth outcomes, improves maternal and postpartum health, promotes infant health, and builds family self-sufficiency and stability. WiNGS’ Financial Resiliency program provides families with the ability to understand and manage household finances and empowers them to achieve financial security and build financial wealth. In 2020-2021, WiNGS supported and empowered 1,840 clients – 92% of which were people of color and 79% with an annual income of less than $38,000.

WiNGS and the other category finalists will be featured in D CEO’s August issue and will be recognized at an awards event in July. To view the full list of finalists, click here.
